KLANG: Hosts Selangor climbed to the top of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) medal table after sweeping the men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball gold medals today (Aug 13), opening their campaign with two gold medals.
The double triumph placed Selangor ahead of Wilayah Persekutuan, who collected two silver medals, while Negeri Sembilan occupied third after securing two bronze medals.
Selangor successfully defended both titles, defeating Wilayah Persekutuan in the two finals to repeat their clean sweep from SUKMA Sarawak 2024.
In the women’s final, Selangor proved too strong for Wilayah Persekutuan, cruising to a 21-4 victory to retain the title they won two years ago after beating Johor in the final.
The men’s team followed suit, overcoming Wilayah Persekutuan 21-13 to successfully defend their crown. At the previous Games in Sarawak, Selangor also defeated Johor to clinch the gold medal.
Negeri Sembilan completed the podium in both categories by winning bronze.
The women’s team defeated Johor 16-12 in the third-place playoff, while the men’s side edged Johor 21-19 to secure the state’s second bronze medal.
The victories gave Selangor the early advantage in the medal race as the host state made the perfect start to its SUKMA 2026 campaign. – TVS
