KUCHING: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his firm stance against the proposed guidelines for Muslims attending events of the non-Muslim communities.
“As the Head of Islam in Selangor, His Royal Highness believes that the proposal is being made at an inappropriate time.
“This is because the people are actively fostering goodwill among the various races and religions to strengthen national unity,” the Sultan said in a statement which was shared by the Selangor Royal Office on Facebook.
He also said the issue, to some extent, caused unease within the community, and will affect the harmony that has already been established.
“His Royal Highness said that Islam, through the Quran and Sunnah, has provided the best guidelines for centuries, reinforced by the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah in Malaysia.
“Therefore, concerns about the deviation of Islamic faith due to such practices do not arise because His Royal Highness believes that Muslims today understand the boundaries of their faith and are not easily influenced, being wise enough to assess right and wrong in any given action,” read the statement.
Sharafuddin also reminded the public that Malaysia is a country with various religions and beliefs, and that religious tolerance should not be compromised.
“At the same time, every citizen must respect and acknowledge that Islam is the religion of the federation, as enshrined in the Constitution of Malaysia.
“His Royal Highness advises all Muslims, especially in Selangor, to continuously strengthen their faith by acquiring religious knowledge and following the commands of Allah, while avoiding His prohibitions,” read the statement.
His Royal Highness also stressed that when every Muslim reaches a level of strong faith, they will not easily be misled or influenced by external elements.
