BAU: Reckless motorcyclists found themselves in the crosshairs yesterday evening (Aug 2) as police cracked down on traffic offenders during ‘Op Motosikal’ near Bau Market.

The operation, which kicked off at 6:00 pm, saw officers from the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division inspecting 35 motorcycles and screening 45 individuals.

Bau Police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said a total of 39 summonses were issued for various offences ranging from illegal modifications to riding without valid documents.

“The most violations involved illegal structural modifications with 19 summonses issued, followed by seven for missing side mirrors.

“Police also issued five summonses for riding without a valid licence, four for missing licence plates, and one each for non-compliant licence plates, failure to display a ‘P’ licence, not wearing a helmet, and expired road tax.

“In addition, six motorcycles were confiscated under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement.

Daram urged all road users, especially motorcyclists, to prioritise road safety and strictly follow traffic regulations to avoid endangering themselves and others.

Parents are also reminded to play an active role in monitoring their children’s behaviour and not allow them to engage in illegal motorcycling activities.

Information on unlawful road activities can be reported to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 082-763311.
