BETONG: The pre-launch of the Sungai Krian Bridge marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s coastal road network development, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time for road users in the area.
According to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in a Facebook posting, the pre-launch ceremony for the construction and completion of the Sungai Krian Bridge was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development.
The Sungai Krian Bridge project forms part of the Sarawak Coastal Road development under Work Package D4, implemented by JKR Sarawak as the executing agency under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, with a contract value of RM112,499,580.09.
The 1.227-kilometre bridge comprises a 690-metre main structure with 12 spans. It is designed as a two-lane bridge with a width of 8 metres and is complemented by 6.5-metre-wide approach roads on both sides to ensure user comfort and safety.
Upon completion, the bridge will serve as a strategic route linking the Batang Saribas Bridge No. 2 to the Roban Interchange of the Pan Borneo Highway.
The project is expected to significantly benefit road users, reducing travel time from approximately 15 minutes via ferry service to just a few minutes.
The opening of the bridge also represents another key achievement in the State’s infrastructure development, making it the tenth bridge completed under the Sarawak Coastal Road network initiative.
JKR Sarawak added that it remains committed to delivering quality, safe and resilient infrastructure for the well-being of the people and the state’s sustainable development.
