TEBEDU: The construction project for the Sungai Ruben Bridge, valued at RM5 million, is currently underway as part of the Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA) projects for the Tebedu constituency.
According to Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who is also the chairman of GKCDA, the project is expected to be completed by 2026, with a construction period of 12 months.
“Aside from this bridge, GKCDA has also implemented 204 projects in the Kuching Division and 168 projects in the Serian Division, including 33 projects in Tebedu, with a total cost of RM158.8 million.
“To date, 57 projects have been awarded, 61 are in the process of being awarded, 24 are ready for tender, and 228 are in the planning stage,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project at Kampung Mawang Tahup on Saturday.
With the commencement of this project, he hopes that the bridge will not only facilitate the movement of Kampung Mawang Tahup residents but also create new economic opportunities through land exploration for commercial crops.
“This, in turn, will increase residents’ incomes and establish the village as a key supplier of agricultural produce to Serian and Kuching,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada emphasised that GKCDA was established to accelerate rural infrastructure and socio-economic development in Kuching and Serian, ensuring they are on par with suburban areas.
