KUALA LUMPUR: Kuching City FC took advantage of a weakened KL City side to secure a convincing 6-0 win in their 2026-2027 Super League match at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras here on Wednesday night (Aug 26).

KL City, coached by Datuk Dollah Salleh, started with 10 players and one substitute after an influenza outbreak sidelined 13 players and two officials.

Striker Ajdin Mujagic opened the scoring for head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak’s visiting side in the fourth minute before his striking partner, Jerome Etame, doubled the lead in the 25th minute.

Kuching City were also reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute after captain James Okwuosa was sent off for a foul on Sharvin Selvakumaran.

Etame completed his hat-trick with goals in the 48th and 52nd minutes.

Mujagic scored his second in the 59th, and Etame struck again in stoppage time to seal Kuching City’s first win of the season.

Under the 2026/27 Laws of the Game set by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and adopted by world governing body FIFA, a team must have at least seven players on the pitch to start or continue a match.

In Iskandar Puteri, Johor, defending champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), cruised to their second straight win, hammering Kelantan Red Warrior FC 9-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

Iranian striker, Shahab Zahedi, led the way with four goals. He opened the scoring in the second minute and added a header in the 37th.

An own goal from Muhammad Mohd Faudzi in first-half stoppage time put JDT 3-0 up.

Jairo da Silva made it 4-0 in the 49th minute before Zahedi struck twice more in the 50th and 62nd to complete his four-goal haul.

Matias Nahuel, Eddy Israfilov, and Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi each found the net in the 78th, 81st, and 90th minutes to round off a dominant night for the Southern Tigers at home. – BERNAMA
