SIBU: Instead of securing a loan to settle his outstanding bank loans, a male supervisor of a timber company ended up losing RM8,571.
Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said sometime in July, the 37-year-old victim saw an advertisement on Facebook that offers loan at a low interest rate of 4.2% per annum.
“On July 25, the complainant called up one ‘Kevin’ as he wanted to borrow RM120,000 to settle his outstanding car loan, credit card balance and personal loan,” he said.
He was then asked to make several payments before the loan could be released to him. He was told that the money was for the processing fee, insurance coverage for the loan, deposit, and as advance payment.
ACP Stanley said the complainant had from Aug 1 to 6, made seven transactions to an account number provided by Kevin.
However after the last payment, he could no longer contact Kevin. It was only then that he realised he had been conned.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
