KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, remains steadfast in supporting traditional seats in line with the principles upheld by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).
In stating this, SUPP, president Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, emphasised that no negotiations are necessary, as the long-standing alliance between Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the main component of GPS led by Abang Johari, and SUPP is built on a foundation of loyalty and mutual trust.
“Now, we see that Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak wants to be friends with our party. They no longer want to be opponents but aim to be allies of GPS by replacing SUPP.
“We (PBB and SUPP) have maintained a highly trusted partnership for over 50 years, growing with the establishment of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“SUPP continues to remain united and stable, always ready to support GPS and Sarawak for the prosperity and progress of the state. Therefore, we must be cautious of ‘termites,'” he said.
He said this during the 26th SUPP 2024 Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP headquarters here on Sunday.
Reflecting on the past, he added that certain crises occurred, but the SUPP party always worked hand in hand to overcome the challenges.
“I am very grateful because I came in during the most challenging times, during moments of crisis, and since then, I have been here for 10 years and am still standing strong.
“So this truly reflects what a loyal and trusted relationship means. And that partnership can withstand crisis.
“And for us in government, we formed this partnership with other component members in GPS in 2018, and our strength is we provide the stability, political stability. And we work things out through consensus and unity,” he said.
