SIBU: Members of the Sarawak United People’s Party’s (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch reached out to dialysis patients in need here today (17 March).
Led by branch chairman Kevin Lau, the team presented cash assistance to Nazri Sazali and Morshidi Ali Ahmad in the Paradom area to help ease their financial burden.
It is understood that both patients had earlier approached Lau during a buka puasa event to share the challenges they are facing, particularly in terms of medical expenses.
While the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) covers part of their dialysis treatment costs, Lau said there remains additional out-of-pocket expenses, including medication and injection fees, which have placed a significant strain on their finances over time.
He said his team has begun assisting these patients and will follow up on the possibility of applying for welfare aid through the relevant government department.
He expressed hope that with government support, the patients would receive more comprehensive assistance to help alleviate their family burdens.
He also extended his appreciation to local community leaders for their cooperation and support, including Penghulu Wong Ung for helping to coordinate with government agencies, and Kapitan Tang Siew Kiew for closely monitoring the needs and developments within the local community.
“My team will continue to engage with grassroots communities, remain attentive to the needs of all ethnic groups, and strive to provide meaningful assistance to those in need,” added Lau, who is also SUPP Youth chief.
