SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Women Section and Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek’s Service Centre is set to jointly organise the International Women’s Day Care Initiative from March 1 to 9.
According to Joseph, the initiative — part of the “I Love Bukit Assek” series — aims to appreciate and support women while strengthening community bonds.
“The initiative will run for nine days, with 3,000 International Women’s Day gifts prepared. A limited number of 500 gifts will be distributed daily on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. No prior registration is required,” he said at a press conference held at SUPP Bukit Assek Service Centre here yesterday (Feb 26).
Also present was SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon.
Joseph explained that the celebration is open to female voters in Bukit Assek. Each eligible recipient will receive a 2kg bottle of cooking oil and must collect the gift in person — proxies are not allowed.
Apart from that, he said recipients must present their original MyKad for identity verification and ensure no repeated collections whereby each recipient can only collect once.
The collection, he said, is at his service centre addressed at 3 & 5, 1st floor, Lorong Tong Sang 1, from 9 am to 3 pm during the aforesaid period.
Joseph noted the crucial roles women play in both families and society, expressing hope that the initiative will bring warmth and tangible support to women in Bukit Assek.
He also encouraged female voters to participate and continue supporting the “I Love Bukit Assek” activities.
Organising chairperson Kapitan Sii Leh Hung, who is also the SUPP Bukit Assek Women Section chairperson, said the initiative aims to make women feel valued and appreciated while fostering stronger community ties.
Bukit Assek female voters are invited to collect their gifts on the designated dates and celebrate this special occasion.
