KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching branch has formed a special task force following the expulsion of its chairman Datuk Lily Yong, and secretary Voong Nam Jin.

Deputy chairman Jong Yean Pin has been appointed as acting chairman, while assistant secretary Nicholas Wung will serve as acting secretary, in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Speaking at a brief press conference at the SUPP Kuching branch office last night (Mar 26), Wung said the branch would continue to function as usual, with day-to-day operations already being handled by committee members.

He added that no branch election would be held following the expulsion, as it is not required under the party constitution.

“They were expelled with effect from Mar 9, but the notification letter was issued on Mar 16.

“Based on the letter, they have 30 days to appeal to the party’s central working committee (CWC).

“In the event either of them submits an appeal, the branch will abide by the CWC’s decision,” he said.

Wung noted that both Yong and Voong have until around Apr 15 or 16 to file their appeals.

“At this moment, we do not know whether they have submitted an appeal,” he added.

He said Yong and Voong’s expulsion was related to matters involving the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), dating back to Jul 3 last year.

However, the details of the disciplinary findings have yet to be finalised, prompting the formation of the task force to review the evidence related to their dismissal.

The task force, led by the acting chairman and acting secretary, includes several lawyers within the branch who will examine the grounds for the expulsion.

“We understand that there are full grounds of decision and extensive proceedings prepared by the disciplinary committee, which have been submitted to the CWC for deliberation,” said Wung.
