MIRI: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, has dismissed any notion that the party is akin to ‘anai-anai’ (termites) undermining the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

Speaking at the SUPP Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee’s Chinese New Year dinner on Friday, Dr Sim emphasised that SUPP has been a steadfast ally of GPS since 1970 and will continue to play a key role in ensuring Sarawak’s political stability and development.

“We are not ‘anai-anai’; we are a proven friend. For 55 years, we have stood together, and we will continue to support the Premier in leading Sarawak forward,” he said, referring to Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Dr Sim highlighted the importance of unity and political stability, warning against external forces that might attempt to divide Sarawakians.

“People talk about check and balance, but look at West Malaysia — so divided that no one can make decisions. We do things the Sarawak way, strong and united,” he stated.

He also underscored Sarawak’s economic progress, citing the state’s revenue growth and commitment to infrastructure development.

“With RM15.8 billion in revenue, Sarawak is catching up. Two years of Sarawak’s revenue is equivalent to 10 years of Selangor’s. We need funds to develop our schools, clinics, and infrastructure, and our government is delivering,” he said.

Dr Sim also took pride in the state’s social welfare initiatives, including financial aid for senior citizens and economic assistance for Sarawakians.

“Our Premier cares about the people. No other state provides these benefits. That’s why people now want a Sarawak IC,” he remarked.

Looking ahead to 2030, Dr Sim expressed confidence in Sarawak’s future under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), focusing on prosperity, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

“Sarawak in 2030 will be different. We will achieve a new level of success if we remain united,” he asserted.
