KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, declined to comment on the expulsion of former SUPP Kuching branch chief, Lily Yong, citing ongoing legal proceedings.
The Deputy Premier said the matter would be addressed by the party’s secretary-general as it involves legal processes.
“That will be explained by the secretary-general because it involves legal matters. So, I am unable to comment on this,” he told reporters after officiating at the Sarawak Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Integrity Day celebration at the Sheraton Hotel here today.
Dr Sim’s response reflects the sensitivity of the case, which has also been linked to allegations involving the state welfare initiative, the Kenyalang Gold Card programme.
Yong is reported to be considering an appeal against her expulsion, after confirming that she and SUPP Kuching branch secretary, Voong Nam Jin, received termination letters following a statement issued in July 2025.
The party had previously said the statement could undermine its credibility and public confidence.
Yong served as Padungan assemblywoman from 2001 to 2006 after defeating a DAP candidate, before losing the seat in the subsequent state election.
However, she has remained active in party politics despite no longer holding an elected position.
