THE Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) has unanimously passed the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill, 2025, approving an additional RM237,660,520 for ordinary expenditure this year.
The Bill was tabled by Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and seconded by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Uggah explained that RM100 million was required by the Department of the Premier of Sarawak to cover the cost of air-chartered services due to increased official activities.
He also revealed that RM72,264,000 had been allocated to the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development to implement a special pocket money initiative, where every Sarawakian student pursuing a diploma or bachelor’s degree at higher education institutions across Malaysia would receive RM1,200.
Meanwhile, RM3,125,382 has been allocated to the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government to support the management of People’s Housing Programme (PPR) rental flats in Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
An additional RM62,271,138 will go towards special monthly allowances and Basic Needs Incentive Assistance for Sarawak civil servants, effective January 2025. Among the allocations, the Land and Survey Department will receive RM11 million, the Agriculture Department RM10,317,200, the Public Works Department RM9,652,665, and the Rural Water Supply Department RM8,699,287.
The remaining amount will be distributed among other departments, including the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Forest Department, Social Welfare Department, Museum Department, Department of the Premier of Sarawak and divisional administrations across the state.
In addition to the ordinary expenditure, the assembly also approved RM207 million in extra development expenditure for 2025.
Uggah said RM100 million would be used to continue implementing various Projek Rakyat, while RM107 million would be channelled into financial assistance for eligible recipients under the Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) initiative.
