KUCHING: Sarawak’s continued stability, unity and support for the state leadership will be crucial in sustaining progress and navigating global uncertainties in 2026, says Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.
Reflecting on the past year, he said Sarawak had once again demonstrated strong performance under the leadership of the Premier, marked by several historic milestones that reinforced the state’s long-term development trajectory.
“For 2025, Sarawak has done very well overall as in previous years under the able leadership of the Premier. We have achieved a few historical milestones such as the launch of the Sarawak Future Wealth Sovereign Fund, AirBorneo, and free tertiary education for Sarawakians admitted into Sarawak-owned universities,” he said when contacted by Sarawak Tribune for his 2026 New Year message.
Gerawat expressed appreciation to the people of Sarawak for their trust and continued encouragement, which he said had been a strong source of inspiration for government leaders.
As the state looks ahead to the coming year, he hopes the momentum of progress will continue to benefit all communities.
“My hope for next year is for Sarawak to continue to have stability, progress and economic growth under the able leadership of the Premier, and that every community in Sarawak will continue to live in peace, harmony and prosperity while continuing to support our Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government,” he said.
Despite global uncertainties, Gerawat stressed that unity and unwavering support for the Premier and the state leadership would enable Sarawak to weather challenges and achieve its aspirations under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Regardless of the global and international uncertainties and challenges, as long as we remain united and give our unwavering support for our leaders, especially YAB Premier, we can survive such uncertainties and challenges and achieve our aspirations set out in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he added.
He also called on Sarawakians to internalise the spirit of the “Sarawak First” motto, emphasising that the state’s future peace and prosperity depend on collective commitment and cooperation.
“It is vital for every Sarawakian to understand and live our aspiration encapsulated in ‘Sarawak First’, which is our GPS motto, as only Sarawakians know how to take care of our beloved State of Sarawak,” he said.
“For the future, we can continue to enjoy peace, harmony and prosperity if our rakyat continue to work together and support our current government led by our visionary, innovative, courageous, outstanding and internationally acknowledged leader, our Premier,” Gerawat added.
