KUCHING: Strong support from schools, parents, the community and local leaders is essential in creating a conducive environment for students to excel academically.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said parents, in particular, needed to play a more active role by providing encouragement, emotional support and a positive learning environment at home.
He said success does not come easily, but is built on consistent effort, discipline, self-confidence and determination from each student.
“Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers questions, don’t be shy to try, and don’t give up easily when facing difficulties. Failure is not the end — it is an opportunity to learn, improve and rise again,” he said.
He said this when officiating the Final Boost Dual Language Programme (DLP) Zone Mambong 2026 at the Kuching Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) here yesterday (Sept 20).
Organised by the Association of Head Teachers Zone Mambong in collaboration with YSISS, the programme brought together 180 Year 6 students from 18 primary schools within Zone Mambong along with 180 parents, drawing a total of about 400 participants.
Jerip, who is also the Mambong assemblyman, urged the students to make the most of the programme in preparing for the DLP examinations scheduled for October 14 and 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, YSISS principal Jimali Sunang said close collaboration between YSISS, its supporting schools, teachers and parents remains essential to sustaining students’ academic excellence.
He noted that YSISS recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in its Checkpoint examinations, along with strong results in Science and Mathematics, reflecting the effectiveness of the continuous support and guidance given to students.
