Supporting, developing Sarawak-Sabah SMEs

KUCHING: Four new programmes aimed at supporting and developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak and Sabah will be launched soon.

“Starting this year, we are preparing four projects that are specially designed for the purpose,” said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

“Along with the 185 entrepreneur development programmes or projects available for Sarawak entrepreneurs, these four will focus on the needs of entrepreneurs in both states and with inputs and suggestions from the state leadership, especially in Sarawak, it will enable us to draft a better budget and programme next year.”

One of the programmes, the Entrepreneur Digitalization Development Program, is a key focus for the ministry.

“I must thank the Premier and the Deputy Premier who have conveyed valuable insights to me and our ministry,” said Ewon after paying a courtesy call to Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

Earlier, Ewon participated in a special meeting focused on the advancement of entrepreneurship in Sarawak, which was led by the Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, under the Ministry for International Trade, Industry, and Investment. During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to improve the business atmosphere and offer aid to small and medium enterprises in the state.

Also present during the meeting were Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, MINTRED acting permanent secretary Dzolkarnain Masron, MINTRED advisor Datuk Naroden Majais, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (Entrepreneur Development) Dr Ripin Lamat and Secretary General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Development Datuk Suriani Ahmad.
