TBILISI, Georgia: Georgian Airways has begun reducing flights and warned it could go bankrupt amid surging jet fuel prices, said Victoria Klimicheva, the airline’s head of public relations, reported Xinhua.

“Take a Paris round-trip: We need around 26 tonnes of fuel – about USD50,000 (approx. RM198,000). Across 100 passengers, that is USD500 (approx. RM2,013) per person just for kerosene.

“Our round-trip fare was €300 to €350 (about RM1,395 to RM1,650),” she said, noting that ticket prices on some routes no longer cover even the basic cost of fuel.

Jet fuel prices have surged since conflict began between the United States (US), Israel and Iran, disrupting production and supply chains across West Asia and the broader region. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
