MIRI: A 20-year-old man was detained after he was found in possession of an illegal substance.

According to Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, the illegal substance which is believed to be cannabis was found by a Miri Narcotic police team during a raid on a house at Desa Pujut 2, Jalan Teniku here at 3pm on Tuesday.

“During a check conducted in the suspect’s bedroom pieces of dried leaves believed to be cannabis were found inside a bag,” Lim said, adding that the 1,000gram of drug has a street value of RM12,000.

It is believed that the drug in the suspect’s possession was meant for sale to local addicts.

Police also seized the suspect’s Proton Saga FLX car worth RM30,000.

Prior to the arrest, police had conducted a month’s surveillance on the suspect’s movements.

ACP Lim added that the suspect did not have any previous criminal records.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been in the business for more than a month.

Lim said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
