KUCHING: A man who threatened Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for wanting to murder him has been arrested and the case is solved, said State CID chief SAC Denis Leong yesterday.
He said on 7 Sept, a report was received in Miri pertaining to a threat via a posting in a Facebook account to murder the Chief Minister.
Initial investigation revealed that the threat could have been posted by the account holder residing in West Malaysia.
However, upon further investigation, CID personnel from Sarawak Police Headquarters managed to determine that the Facebook account was used by another individual residing in Sarawak.
The individual concerned was so brazen that he even challenged the police to arrest him.
Last Thursday at about 4.30 pm personnel from Sarawak CID Headquarters identified a 32-year-old man as the suspect and tracked him down in Kota Samarahan where he was subsequently arrested.
The suspect works as a Gym Assistant and is being remanded for four days to assist in the investigation.
A handphone was seized and the suspect’s lady companion and another were also called in to assist in the investigation but they were
released soon after.
At the moment, the motive points to jealousy. The suspect was trying to put the Facebook account holder in trouble with the authority
because of his constant communication with his lady companion.
The offence is framed under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of Communications and Multimedia Act, 1998.
