SIBU: The owner of the Perodua Bezza believed to be involved in a hit-and-run accident near SMK St Elizabeth here has come forward to assist police with investigations.
Sibu district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the vehicle owner was traced following further investigations by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Sibu district police headquarters.
He said police had detected a video of the accident which had gone viral on social media.
“On Aug 6 at about 4.28pm, police received information on the accident, which involved a 14-year old boy pedestrian and a Perodua Bezza at Jalan Oya near SMK Saint Elizabeth,” he said in a statement today.
Abang Zainal said initial investigations found that the pedestrian was involved in an accident with the vehicle and sustained injuries before receiving follow-up treatment at Sibu Hospital.
He said the vehicle owner subsequently came forward to the Sibu IPD to assist in the investigation.
“Police would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to members of the public who provided information regarding the incident, which helped police locate the vehicle involved,” he said.
Abang Zainal said the cooperation and concern shown by the public demonstrated the importance of close collaboration between the police and the community in facilitating investigations and law enforcement.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
