LUNDU: Two local men, both suspected to be riding their motorcycles under the influence of alcohol and without helmets, died in a head-on collision along KM24, Jalan Lundu-Sematan here early yesterday morning (June 1).
Lundu police chief Supt Sudirman Kram said the accident occurred at about 4.40 am near Kampung Sebat, involving a Honda C100B and a Modenas Kriss motorcycle.
“Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the Honda rider was travelling against the flow of traffic from Sematan towards Lundu, while the Modenas rider was travelling in the opposite direction.
“The collision caused severe head injuries to both riders, who were later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Lundu Hospital.
“The victims, aged 25 and 29 and both from Sematan, are believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash,” he said when contacted.
Further investigations revealed that the accident was caused by the Honda rider riding against traffic flow.
Sudirman added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
In light of this, he urged the public to exercise caution while on the road and adhere to traffic laws and regulations to prevent unwanted incidents.
