SARATOK: A local man behaving suspiciously in the town area yesterday (Oct 19), turned out to have two prior records and tested positive for narcotics.

The 46-year-old from Miri was arrested during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ following a tip-off about his behaviour.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggil said a police team was dispatched to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspect.

“He was later taken to Saratok police station for a urine test and record inspection.

“The urine test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and checks found that he has two prior records related to drugs,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine up to RM5,000, imprisonment up to two years, or both, along with two years of supervision.
