KUCHING: A driver managed to escape unscathed after his sports utility vehicle (SUV) caught fire along Jalan FAC Matang here this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Petra Jaya station were deployed to the scene, about 18 kilometres away, following a distress call at 11:34 am.
Upon arrival, they found the Ford Kuga engulfed in flames, and extinguished the fire using water from their fire engine.
The blaze was brought under control by 12:00 pm, followed by overhaul works to prevent potential reignition.
No injuries or casualties were reported, as the driver had escaped to safety before the situation worsened.
Once the area was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 12:16 pm.
The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
