BAU: A luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) weaving dangerously into oncoming traffic along Jalan Bau-Kuching Lama was caught on dashcam – and the driver admitted that he was battling drowsiness, putting countless lives at risk.

The video, uploaded to ‘Sarawak Roads Update’ on Facebook on December 12, quickly went viral, showing a Range Rover Sport veering across lanes near Siniawan and forcing other drivers to brake or swerve to avoid collisions.

Social media users slammed the driver’s recklessness, warning it could easily lead to accidents and endanger lives.

Bau Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division traced the vehicle and summoned the driver the following day for further investigation.

“During questioning, the driver admitted he was drowsy while driving from Bau to Kuching after attending a meeting.

“Investigation confirmed that he violated Regulation 8 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59 for failing to keep to the correct lane, and a summons was issued against him,” he said.

Haide urged all road users to stay alert and well-rested, and to never get behind the wheel while drowsy or fatigued.

They are also advised to obey traffic rules and practise responsible driving to protect themselves and others.
