SUZHOU: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan led a Sarawak delegation to the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) recently, seeking insights for the state’s burgeoning industrial parks.
The visit aligned with Sarawak’s initiative to establish the Industrial Park Management Committee (IPMC) to enhance the management and conditions of its industrial parks, promoting long-term sustainability.
The state has already formed an IPMC for the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone and Demak Laut Industrial Park in Kuching.
The delegation included Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh; MINTRED Advisor, Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais; MINTRED Permanent Secretary, Dzulkornain Masron; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), Datuk Ismawi Ismuni; and InvestSarawak CEO, Timothy Ong.
A joint venture between the Chinese and Singaporean governments, SIP spans 278 square kilometres and is home to approximately 1.19 million people, including 807,800 permanent residents.
The industrial park boasts a well-structured layout, prioritising two core industries: new-generation information technology and high-end equipment manufacturing.
It also focuses on three emerging sectors: biomedicine, nanotechnology applications, and artificial intelligence.
To support these industries, SIP has developed a robust modern service sector.
