LIMBANG: A potential disaster was averted at SMK Medamit last night (Jul 1), thanks to the quick action of a security guard and dormitory warden, who managed to stop a fire from engulfing the school’s boys’ dormitory.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 8.07 pm and dispatched firefighters from Limbang station to the scene, about 43km away.

By the time the team arrived, the fire had already been partially extinguished, thanks to the efforts of the school staff.

The blaze affected only about eight per cent of the dormitory building.

No injuries or casualties were reported as all the students were away from the dormitory at the time.

The firefighters conducted a full inspection to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and prevent any potential reignition.

The team ended the operation at 9.35 pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
