JULAU: A small room fire at Rumah (Rh) Mimis, Sungai Rau Entabai, Jalan Pakan Engkamop here, was successfully extinguished by two quick-thinking heroes before firefighters arrived.

Using two dry powder fire extinguishers, the duo – 31-year-old Ignatius Guma Angking and 26-year-old Simon Sumping Balai – managed to put out the flames, thus no firefighting operation was carried out.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call about the incident on Saturday at 11.41 am.

A team from the Bintangor fire station was dispatched to the scene, located 62 kilometres away, and arrived at 1.20 pm.

“The 42 doors longhouse saw the fire had damaged approximately 6 per cent of a small room measuring 6 x 6 metres at Door No 27 of the longhouse.

“The blaze affected household furniture, clothing, and the ceiling. In addition, the ceiling of Door No 28 sustained minor damage.

“No injuries were also reported,” it said in a statement on Saturday.

Bomba said their team then conducted inspections and investigations at the site to ensure safety and prevent any recurrence.

“A brief fire prevention talk was also given to the residents,” it said.
