SIBU: Smoke rising from the first floor of a building behind Medan Food Court along Jalan Wong King Huo triggered a swift response from firefighters on Sunday night (Jan 11), averting what could have escalated into a more serious blaze.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted of the incident at 7.18pm and dispatched firefighters from Sibu central station to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed a fire had broken out in an office that had been turned into a mobile phone repair workshop, with the affected area measuring about 20 by 60 square feet.
The team immediately carried out fire suppression using water from the fire engine’s tank. The flames were brought under control by 7.50 pm, preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
Overhaul works followed to ensure the situation was safe before the operation ended at 8.20 pm.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
