KUCHING: Firefighters swiftly contained a pre-dawn fire that broke out on the rooftop of a shophouse behind the PETRONAS petrol station at MJC, Batu Kawa, today (April 22).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Batu Lintang station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call at 3.48 am.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that the flames involved a pile of waste and cardboard boxes on the fourth floor of the building. The fire also caused damage to approximately 30 per cent of the building’s roof.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames using water from a nearby fire hydrant, followed by overhaul work to ensure no risk of reignition.

No injuries or casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 5.01 am.
