KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has taken swift action in response to the recurring flying stone attacks at Jalan Batu Kawa here by installing the first solar-powered CCTV camera equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Its chairman Tan Kai announced that despite police arresting a suspect involved in the incidents, the attacks have continued to occur, prompting immediate intervention from various agencies.
“After a few days of discussions with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Public Works Department (PWD), CCTV contractors, and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), the first solar-powered CCTV pole and camera have been installed today,” said Tan in a statement today.
He extended his gratitude to all relevant parties who worked together to address the issue swiftly.
“Thank you for the support and efforts from all relevant parties, including PDRM Padawan, CCTV contractor (for free CSR on new innovative CCTV camera with AI enable), SMA (for special exemption of licensing due to urgency) and PWD,” he said.
Tan further stressed that the success of the initiative was a result of collective responsibility.
“This is a spirit that everyone can help instead of finger pointing and publicity stunts,” he added.
He said the installation of the CCTV was a crucial step towards enhancing community security and expressed confidence that it would deter further incidents.
“Together we can make our community liveable and safer,” he said.
