SIBU: The Sibu Masters Swimming Club (SMSC) secured an impressive fourth place out of 19 teams, amassing 334 points with a haul of 35 gold, 16 silver, and seven bronze medals at the 9th Speedo Malaysia International Masters Championships in Kedah recently.

This achievement underscored Sibu’s position as a swimming powerhouse in the state, said club president Johnny Ngu Hew Sii.

He lauded the swimmers’ dedication, highlighting their participation in the Thailand Masters Swimming Championship 2024 in July, where they garnered 13 gold, 15 bronze, and 10 silver medals.

Ling Ai Gek shone in both championships, emerging as the top medal contributor.

“We aim to participate in more tournaments to provide our swimmers with valuable exposure,” Ngu said during the SMSC’s 7th anniversary dinner on Saturday.

“We also invite former athletes, state and national representatives alike, to join us in elevating swimming here.”

The club currently boasts around 60 members and presented incentives to its top performers at the dinner.
