KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has equipped its graduates with innovative, future-ready qualifications designed to meet the demands of a technology-led era.

Chancellor Professor John Pollaers said the university’s global achievements, including its rise in international rankings, reflected the value of its education and credentials.

He added that despite being a young institution, Swinburne had strengthened its position as a leader in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship on the world stage.

“Not only have we cemented our place in the top 300 universities in the world, but Swinburne is also ranked 24th in the world in the Young University rankings, making us the highest-ranked Victorian university under 50 years old,” he said.

“These achievements reinforce the value of the education you have received from Swinburne as the innovative, future-focused qualifications you need in a tech-led world.”

Pollaers said this during Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ graduation ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

He said Swinburne aimed to be the prototype of a different kind of university, one shaped by technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

“You are graduating from an institution that is proud to be the sort of university the future not only expects but demands us to be,” he added.

He also reminded graduates that their Swinburne credentials would serve as tickets to new opportunities and as tools to lead in a rapidly changing society.

He noted that while global challenges such as artificial intelligence, climate change and political turbulence posed uncertainties, they also offered opportunities for graduates to make a difference.

“You now have the opportunity to help lead Sarawak into a new society where the gains of the technology age are harnessed and unleashed at a pace we have not seen before,” he added.

“At this pivotal moment in your life’s journey, I challenge you to consider how you can contribute to building a better world.”
