KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has entered into a five-year strategic partnership with Mango Media Sdn Bhd to advance innovation, research, and talent development in media, technology, and entrepreneurship.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on April 11 in Kuala Lumpur.
Under the agreement, both parties will, among others, engage in joint research and media production projects to develop culturally meaningful short films and multimedia content.
These creative outputs will serve as alternative platforms for disseminating research and academic insights to broader audiences.
This collaboration blends Swinburne Sarawak’s academic excellence with Mango Media’s global media reach and creative industry expertise, aiming to enhance student learning, develop industry-relevant skills, and support the growth of Malaysia’s and Sarawak’s digital economy.
The partnership opens doors for international internships and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programmes, giving Swinburne students access to global opportunities in digital marketing, multimedia production, cultural entrepreneurship, and new media technologies through Mango Media’s extensive network.
The MoU also includes exploring Extended Reality (XR) innovations such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), with projects housed at Swinburne’s Design Hub, which aims to deliver immersive content development, consulting, and training services to government and industry clients.
Swinburne’s SPINE model will also be integrated into social media and entrepreneurship units to provide students with real-world experience through case studies and industry-driven modules focused on branding, communication, and digital business strategies.
Entrepreneurship development will be further supported through short courses, workshops, and training programmes delivered via the university’s Entrepreneurship Hub, which aims to cultivate the next generation of creative digital entrepreneurs.
This partnership reflects Swinburne Sarawak’s commitment to its Horizon 2025 strategic vision and aligns with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO Professor Lau Hieng Ho, represented Swinburne Sarawak, while General Manager Jiang Zhong Qi represented Mango Media.
