KUCHING: Dr Jee Teck Weng, a senior lecturer from the Faculty of Business, Design and Arts at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, has successfully completed the Professional Certificate in Contemporary Leadership (PCCL) at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education (MIHE) in Leicestershire, United Kingdom.
His achievement reflects Swinburne Sarawak’s continued commitment to strengthening academic leadership and faculty excellence in line with global standards.
Jee was among 29 senior executives, civil servants, academics, and corporate and community leaders from Malaysia and the region who completed the intensive three-month programme.
The PCCL programme culminated in a week-long residential session in the United Kingdom from Nov 24 to 30, featuring advanced leadership engagement, reflective practice and global exposure.
Participants also undertook academic visits to the University of Oxford, including the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and Linacre College.
The programme is a flagship initiative by the Malaysian Research and Education Foundation (MyREF) in partnership with MIHE, and is delivered in collaboration with the Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA).
It focuses on nurturing ethical, contemporary and transformational leadership by integrating universal moral values with modern leadership competencies.
Reflecting on the experience, Jee said the programme had reshaped his approach to leadership and education, emphasising inclusivity and service.
“The programme reminded me that leadership is not about authority, but about service, uplifting others, creating space for every voice, and ensuring people feel valued and empowered.”
He added that the training had strengthened his ability to listen deeply, understand context and apply global moral values in leadership.
These competencies, he said, now inform how he engages with students, colleagues and research partners, particularly through reflective dialogue and ethical reasoning.
Jee also highlighted opportunities for future collaboration arising from initiatives led by MyREF, MASA and the upcoming Institute of Contemporary Leadership, including youth leadership development, youth entrepreneurship, industry-university training modules, and cross-country leadership exchanges.
Such collaborations, he said, could open new avenues for Swinburne Sarawak students and staff to engage with national and international leadership communities, businesses and universities, particularly across Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom.
