KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus celebrated the holy month of Ramadan through its Ramadan Outreach and Charity Bazaar 2026, bringing together students, staff, and the wider community.

According to a press statement released today, the event ran from Mar 2 to 6 and featured a charity drive, a buka puasa dinner, and a lively on-campus bazaar.

At its heart was a charity drive that raised RM5,000 worth of contributions from 38 donors, including duit raya, baju Melayu, and essential food items.

All donations were directed towards Pertubuhan Kebajikan Baiturrahmah, a local orphanage in Kuching.

The handover of contributions took place during a Charity Buka Puasa dinner held on Mar 4, where donors were each presented with a traditional kek lapis in appreciation.

Thirteen children from the orphanage attended the dinner as special guests, making the evening a deeply moving occasion for all present.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne Sarawak Professor Dr Ida Fatimawati Adi Badiozaman praised donors, volunteers, and committee members for their efforts.

“Ramadan’s values of reflection, gratitude and compassion resonate across cultures and faiths, and are very much alive at Swinburne through this event,” she said.

Addressing the young guests, she expressed hope that they would leave with fond memories and a sense of being supported by a caring wider community.

The charity bazaar, held alongside the dinner, drew over 200 visitors daily and featured 22 booths run by student enterprises and external vendors.

Proceeds from booth rentals were channelled directly into the charity fund, amplifying the event’s impact.
