SIBU: Re-elected PBB Supreme Council Member, Syed Hamzah Wan Hamid Edruce, has pledged to fully utilise his position to contribute to policy-making and initiatives for young people.

In a statement on Sunday (Feb 16) he said that the Sarawak government already has well-structured policies for human capital development, particularly with initiatives such as free education for Sarawakian students, which is set to be implemented next year.

“I believe it is time to focus on formulating policies that support young graduates entering the workforce after completing their university studies.

“Perhaps policies on how the government can further empower young entrepreneurs in Sarawak, particularly in helping them sustain their businesses during the crucial first five years,” he said.

He emphasised that entrepreneurship development is a key aspect, as the emergence and growth of new businesses will create more job opportunities for Sarawak’s youth.

“Sarawak aspires to become a high-income developed region. To achieve this, there must be a consistent increase in the number of job opportunities that offer competitive salaries each year.

“Only then can we gradually increase the number of people in the M40 income category and reduce the income gap between lower- and higher-income groups in Sarawak,” he added.

Syed Hamzah, who is also the party’s Pelawan branch chief, hopes to see young Sarawakians no longer needing to migrate elsewhere in search of better job prospects.

He noted that the Premier’s vision of making Sarawak the nation’s leading economic powerhouse is an ambitious one, and he believes that Sarawak is on the right track towards achieving it.

“I hope that with young leaders like myself remaining within the Supreme Council, PBB will continue to be a dynamic political party that consistently nurtures future leaders capable of steering Sarawak towards the aspirations set by the party’s top leadership,” he said.
