PETALING JAYA, Selangor: Muar Member of Parliament, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, was acquitted of all corruption and money laundering charges by the Court of Appeal in a unanimous decision today.

Delivering the verdict in a packed courtroom, Justice Noorin Badaruddin said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the former youth and sports minister, adding that he should have been acquitted without being ordered to enter his defence during the trial.

She ruled that the prosecution was unable to prove the key elements of the predicate offences, namely criminal breach of trust and dishonest misappropriation, both of which formed the basis of the corruption and money laundering charges.

In November 2023, Syed Saddiq was found guilty of abetting in the criminal breach of trust involving over RM1 million belonging to Bersatu’s youth wing (Armada), as well as misappropriating more than RM120,000 also linked to the wing.

The former Bersatu Youth chief was also convicted of two counts of money laundering for allegedly transferring RM100,000 into his personal account from Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise, a company associated with the party’s youth wing.

The ruling clears Syed Saddiq of all four charges.
