KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, missed the opportunity to become the first Malaysians to win the World Tour Finals (WTF) title on Sunday.
The duo lost to Denmark’s Astrup and Rasmussen in a 65-minute final at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, with scores of 17-21, 21-17, and 11-21.
Despite the defeat, Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin had an outstanding season, winning three World Tour titles: the Japan Open (Super 750), China Open (Super 1000), and Arctic Open (Super 500).
Commenting on their performance, Sze Fei admitted that they couldn’t find the right strategy to overcome the 2023 World Championships runners-up.
“This season had been good to us, we’ve achieved things we’ve never done before and hope we can be better next year,” he said in an audio recording from Badminton World Federation post-match. – BERNAMA
