KUCHING: World No. 2 men’s badminton doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, champion the Malaysia Masters quarters rally after winning straight sets of 21-19, 21-13 against Chen Zhi Ray and Lin Yu Chieh of China at Axiata Arena on Thursday.
They are set to face off against compatriots, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun Tee, following their 21-17, 21-13 set victory over Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita.
In other men’s doubles news, World No. 4 pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, smashed passed Yang Po Han-Liu Kuang Heng with a 21-13, 21-16 straight set wins.
However, fate had a different plan for Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong as they lost 9-21, 12-21 to World No. 1 pair, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark.
The rally picks back up in the women’s doubles department after Thailand Open champions, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, skilfully outplayed World No. 85, Pichamon Phatcharaphisutsin-Nannapas Sukkladb, with a 21-13, 21-15 straight set wins.
however, their compatriots, Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing, were left packing after Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian of China bested them in a 21-6, 21-15 straight set wins.
In the mixed doubles draw, Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien succumbed to a 21-14, 21-9 set loss against Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran pair while new seeds, Loo Bing Kun-Toh Ee Wei, were ousted by Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan of Taipei after a 20-22, 18-21 set loss – leaving Malaysia with no more representative in the category.
