KUCHING: A popular local restaurant is urging four young men to come clean and settle their bill after they allegedly walked out without paying, in what the restaurant suspects was a deliberate dine-and-dash yesterday.

The management of Ceylonese Restaurant Sdn Bhd said the group arrived at the premises around 5:00 pm, enjoyed their meal, and then left one by one – without paying.

After finishing their meal, they requested for the bill.

Later, they began exiting the restaurant one by one.

“Our staff approached the last remaining person about the payment.

“He held up the bill and claimed his friend would be coming in to settle it.

“However, within five minutes, all of them had disappeared,” the management said.

The management stated that while they usually refrain from making such incidents public, this case seemed premeditated.

“We have CCTV footage of the incident, and are kindly requesting the individuals involved to return and make the payment.

“Mistakes happen, and we are giving the benefit of the doubt, but this kind of behaviour is not what we hope to see from the next generation.

“Please do the right thing,” the management said.

No police report has been lodged yet as the restaurant is hoping for an amicable resolution.

Since the incident was shared on social media, it has drawn strong reactions from netizens – with many calling the men “cheapskates”, “shameful” and “irresponsible”, while others advised the restaurant to consider a pay-upon-serving policy to avoid similar situations from happening in the future.
