SELANGOR: Sarawak’s mixed doubles gold at SUKMA Selangor 2026 has strengthened confidence in the state’s efforts to develop a new generation of table tennis players capable of competing at national level.

The title was secured by Joanne Chen and Cody Ting, who produced a commanding 3-0 victory over Selangor’s Hun Hui Qi and Lee Yong Yi in the final at Dewan Konvensyen MBDK Bukit Raja today (Aug 23).

Sarawak Table Tennis Association President Jacky Sia said what impressed him most was the pair’s ability to adapt during the match while remaining composed regardless of the situation.

“They were able to create opportunities whether they were leading or trailing, and they remained calm throughout.

“They maintained a ‘win without arrogance, lose without discouragement’ mentality, which was important, especially during the crucial moments,” he said to Sarawak Tribune when contacted.

Sia also highlighted the strong confidence and trust between Joanne and Cody, saying their belief in each other helped them perform when it mattered most.

The victory, he added, had further strengthened the association’s confidence in Sarawak’s mixed doubles development.

“For us, this is not only a valuable victory, but also a very important learning experience.

“We hope that through competitions like this, our young players can continue to gain experience and confidence, and eventually achieve better results at national level and beyond,” he said.

The gold adds another encouraging chapter to Sarawak’s SUKMA table tennis campaign, with the association now looking to build on the pair’s success and provide more opportunities for its younger players to develop through high-level competition.
