KUCHING: The new Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic is expected to begin receiving patients on July 20, expanding access to primary healthcare for residents in Tabuan Jaya, Stutong and parts of Samarahan.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the RM24 million facility is scheduled to be handed over from the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak to the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) on July 9.

“The clinic is expected to serve between 800 and 1,000 patients daily and will cater not only to residents of Tabuan Jaya but also those from Stutong and areas extending to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS),” he said in a Facebook post.

Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, said the project was implemented under the Health Ministry’s 10th Malaysia Play (10MP) Rolling Plan 1 and was finally awarded in December 2021 after three rounds of tender.

He said the clinic was originally scheduled for completion in June 2024 but was delayed following an extension of time granted to accommodate additional Fire and Rescue Department requirements.

Dr Sim added that the facility would become the second Type 2 Health Ministry (MoH) health clinic in Sarawak after Petra Jaya Health Clinic.

“Unlike Petra Jaya Health Clinic, which was custom designed and built, the Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic follows the MoH’s standard pre-approved design.

“The facility will require 179 personnel, and I hope the federal government will assign sufficient staff to ensure it operates at full capacity,” he said.

Dr Sim also pointed out that parking would be an immediate challenge as the standard Type 2 clinic design provides only about 100 parking spaces for both the public and staff.
