BINTULU: Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee has called on Tabung Haji to support the food basket assistance programme implemented by his service centre.

He said this initiative aims to ensure the underprivileged groups, including those in Jepak, Tatau, and Sebauh, do not miss out on receiving essential aid.

“I run a food basket programme where recipients can come to my office (Jepak Constituency Service Centre) to collect basic necessities.

“I do not want anyone in our community to go hungry or be left without assistance. As a leader, I am responsible for ensuring their welfare is safeguarded,” he said during the symbolic handing over of a hearse donation under the Tabung Haji (TH) Mobility Programme to Masjid Darussalam Kampung Baru Darat here on Monday.

According to Iskandar, who is also chairman of the Bintulu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIB), Tabung Haji’s commitment to supporting the community — especially in welfare-related issues and assistance for those in need —should be further expanded with the backing of local organisations such as LAKIB.

“I hope Tabung Haji will join us in this effort. We can also explore opportunities for collaboration in assisting new Muslim converts (mualaf) in Bintulu, who require guidance in performing prayers, Quran recitation, and other religious aspects,” he added.

He also welcomed Tabung Haji’s continued engagement with the community, ensuring that more people can benefit from welfare programmes.

“I hope this is not the last time we collaborate, but rather the beginning of many joint initiatives for the well-being of the people,” he said.
