Waste collection services affected by manpower shortage

KUCHING: Waste collection services in certain areas under Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd’s service municipalities will be affected for the next two weeks due to manpower issues faced by the company and after a team member from their Kuching Logistics & Services Division tested positive for Covid-19. This effect on services arose following quarantine orders related to the positive case, as well as movement restrictions in living areas affecting more than 15 operation employees. The employee in question, who last worked on May 29, was informed by the authorities that he was positive for Covid-19 on June 1. Trienekens said it will be enforcing several measures immediately in the interest of the health and wellbeing of their customers, associates, and employees. Conforming with guidelines from the relevant authorities, the waste collection firm has immediately closed its Kuching Logistics & Services office for disinfection. All vehicles and receptacles have also been disinfected. “All colleagues who were in close contact with the affected team member have been identified (to the authorities) and were immediately isolated and quarantined pending swab tessg,” the company said in a statement today (June 2). Trienekens also has in place additional precautionary measures in the interest of its team members and associates. “Offices and facilities, as well as vehicles and receptacles are disinfected every week. Employees are provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitisers. “Hazardous waste operations and municipal waste operations are managed separately, with work rotation teams to ensure no cross contamination,” Trienekens assured. The company is seeking public cooperation and understanding during this period, advising them to contact Trienekens for more information or assistance. Trienekens hoped the public would be patient, ensuring them that though waste collection may be delayed, the company’s waste collectors would work quickly address the issues.
