KUCHING: The Sarawak First Division Tailor’s Association marked its 56th anniversary with a strong call to blend time-honoured tailoring craftsmanship with modern innovation to elevate the industry to new heights.
Association President, Eddy Chang Sock Seng, urged members to unite in preserving the rich heritage of traditional tailoring while embracing cutting-edge technology to stay relevant in today’s competitive fashion landscape.
“Traditional tailoring, with its rich history and intricate workmanship, is the foundation of our profession,” Eddy said.
“We must cherish this precious heritage and allow it to continuously inspire and fuel our creative pursuits.”
Recognising the rapid evolution of the fashion industry, he stressed the importance of adopting innovations such as digital design and 3D printing, alongside the use of contemporary materials and trends, to enhance the appeal and marketability of their creations.
“To meet the needs of a new era, embracing innovation is essential.
“By integrating these modern technologies, we can make our work more competitive while preserving our cultural identity,” he added.
Eddy also encouraged members to actively engage in creative workshops, foster collaboration with designers and technical experts, and participate in exhibitions that showcase innovative tailoring works.
He believes such efforts will strengthen the association and inspire new generations of tailors.
