KUCHING: The passing of Datuk Seri Bo’ Tajang Laing marks the end of an era for the Orang Ulu community, with his legacy continuing to shape both the community and the state.

Mulu assemblyman, Datuk Gerawat Gala, said Tajang was a highly respected and generational leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the Orang Ulu community.

“He was one of our iconic Orang Ulu leaders and the first Orang Ulu minister in our State Cabinet,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

Gerawat who is also the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) said Tajang’s leadership and contributions extended beyond the community, earning recognition from the Sarawak government through the conferment of the ‘Datuk Seri’ title.

He said Tajang was among the pioneering Orang Ulu leaders who championed the importance of working alongside the government to secure a better future for the community.

He also extended his condolences to Tajang’s family, describing him as a leader who had lived a long and fruitful life dedicated to service.

“His passing is a great loss to our community, and we treasure the heritage he left behind for the new generation. He will be greatly missed.

“Our deepest condolences to his family,” he said.
