KUCHING: Authorities are called to take swift action to resolve problems about illegal gambling posters and alarming vandalism of recently upgraded public recreation facilities in Kota Sentosa constituency,
Kota Sentosa state assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Sau Sin, who made the call, said many members of the public scold the elected representatives.
“I have been raising this particular issue to the relevant authorities. They need to take actions,” he said after officiating at the Spring Gala Star 2.0 RedFM audition programme today (Jan 31).
In addition to the gambling concerns, Yap highlighted devastating vandalism affecting newly upgraded recreational facilities in the constituency.
“Why would people want to destroy public properties? These infrastructures are meant to uplift living standards of the community,” he asked, expressing his frustration.
He said local residents claimed the vandals were outsiders.
Yap called for increased police patrols in the areas to deter such behaviour and protect public investments.
He also made an impassioned appeal to residents to take ownership of their community space, emphasising that efforts to improve living standards requires cooperation between elected representatives and the community.
“It takes two hands to clap. On my part, I will get the funding required for development.
“The community must make sure that the facilities are taken care of once the upgrades are completed,” he stated.
Yap concluded that only through mutual effort could communities see sustainable improvements in their living standards, urging residents to protect and maintain the facilities provided for their benefit.
