KUCHING: The Sarawak Water Supply Sports (SBAS) 2025 serves as a platform to select athletes to represent Sarawak’s water supply agencies in the Malaysia Water Supply Sports (SBAM) competition.

The 4th edition of SBAS, from Monday (Feb 17) to Thursday, will determine participants for the SBAM competition in Selangor this August.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi emphasised the importance of early preparations and rigorous training once the team is selected for the competition in Selangor.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), we fully support the organisation of such sports events as they bring many benefits.

“For our participation in SBAM in Selangor this August, the ministry will provide full support to the contingent representing us.

“I encourage early preparations once we have our team, with rigorous training for the competition in Selangor and hopefully, this will not only bring pride to the water services sector but also to all of Sarawak,” he said.

He said this during the opening ceremony of the 4th SBAS, organised by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as the host, at the Royal Malaysian Customs Academy Hall, here today.

Besides, the biennial SBAS will feature 11 sports events, with 433 athletes competing from MUT, JBALB, Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB), and Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (formerly known as LAKU Management Sdn Bhd).

Among the sports featured are football, netball, volleyball, futsal, carrom, darts, bowling, badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, and golf (by invitation).

The SBAS closing ceremony will be officiated by MUT Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, on Feb 20.
