KUCHING: Proboscis monkeys, large primates with distinctive features between the males and females, are exclusively found in the rainforests of Borneo.

The male proboscis monkeys are not only among the largest monkeys in Asia but they are also one of the world’s most distinctive mammals;  they have long and fleshy noses and   large, swollen stomachs.

However, today, the proboscis monkeys are extremely threatened in their natural environment.

The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre will be holding a public talk entitled “Proboscis Monkey in Sarawak” at Telang Usan Hotel here on 12 August, 2017, at 3.00 pm.

The speaker, Oswald Braken Tisen from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn. Bhd, will be presenting an overview of the status of the proboscis monkey in Sarawak.

The talk is open to members of the public, and school and university students are encouraged to attend it.

Those interested in attending this talk can register by providing their names and contact details via email to constance@sbc.org.my or by calling Ms Constance/Nurulliza at 082-610610.
